Iron Deficiency Cause for Concern

People who believe that their chicken or fish diets are ‘good’ for them may be subjecting their bodies to the same iron deficiencies as those who eat junk foods according to a new study.

The researchers raised concerns that due to a lack of understanding of the importance of iron in diets may be endangering people’s health as well as impeding children’s performance at school.

Christian Jessen, TV doctor and health campaigner is reported to have stated;

“The high rate of iron deficiency among women in a developed country like the UK is a real concern; the side effects are subtle and can creep on up you – you can end up feeling tired, lethargic with no get up and go.”

The Daily Express reported that simply by swapping meals for those rich in iron could make a real difference.

Include iron rich foods such as steak, liver and watercress in your diet to help maintain your iron levels.

Have You Reached a Plateau?

You’ve been on your diet for a couple of weeks, full of enthusiasm and determination however, after loosing a couple of pounds (maybe more) the first two weeks you’ve now come to a standstill and asking yourself ‘where did I go wrong?’

Does this sound familiar? – if it does then you have reached a diet plateau and need to get yourself off the plateau and back on track rather than giving up thinking you’re a failure. Here are 5 ways to help you stay focused and start the weight loss needle swinging in the right direction.

1. Check what you’re actually eating – it’s so easy to add a little more than you should to your plate – think back to the start of your diet and evaluate where you may have added a couple of bites more.

2. Limit your alcohol content – it’s surprising how many calories one unit of alcohol contains – with the festive season over reducing your alcohol intake should be a little easier.

3. It could be your exercise that’s now helping you to lose weight – maybe you need to add another 5-10 minutes to your routine.

4. Make sure that you’re drinking enough water – the recommended amount for most diets is 8 glasses or 2 litres per day.

5. Ask friends and family to help you – without nagging, they should encourage good eating habits to help you stay on track.

I hope these points will encourage you to stick with your diet plan and get you back on-track to sheds the pounds.

Small Steps to Achieving Large Goals

Registered dietician and executive director of the Calorie Control Council Beth Hubrich has predicted that new approaches to dieting will play a major part of weight loss this year.

“With life busier and more stressful than ever, rather than making a complete overhaul, people will be looking for small steps they can take to be healthier,” she continued to say “Simple lifestyle changes such as increasing fruit and veggies by one serving per day, cutting out 50-150 calories per day by eating fewer bites of a sandwich, choosing a diet soda or low-cal beverage in place of the regular versions, and exercising 10 minutes here or there, can make a big difference in 2012 – and hopefully for life.”

So, if you’re looking to lose weight and keep it off you’ll need to adopt a new healthy lifestyle as part of your effective diets plan.

Eat Seaweed only in Moderation

Tanya Zuckerbrot writing for Fox News sheds insight to the potential harm that too much seaweed in your diet may pose.

She says:

“I recently had a patient who was downing seaweed salad a few times per week, but couldn’t figure out why she wasn’t losing weight and why she felt so swollen. That’s because 1 cup of seaweed salad has about 130 calories, 25 grams of carbohydrate, 4 grams of sugar, 3 grams of fiber and the real kicker – 900-1200 mg sodium. That’s almost half of a whole day’s worth of sodium in just one cup of seaweed salad. Sodium is an electrolyte that attaches itself to water – the more sodium you eat, the more water you retain which prevents weight loss and increases swelling. Word to the wise – too much of anything is probably not a good thing”.

Adding seaweed in moderation to your diet can be beneficial to your health as its packed with vitamins, iodine, calcium and iron.

Too much of any food can’t and isn’t always good for you; they may help you lose weight fast, for example the cabbage soup diet, but you’ll soon find yourself fatigued and with a nasty upset tummy if you keep this type of diet up for too long.

Diets that Rarely Work 4: Celebrity Diets

Just about every celebrity has a special diet, either one which the promote commercially or that they use. All claiming it’s what keeps them looking trim, and yet have you ever stopped to think that they also probably have people to prepare their food for them and they all also have personal trainers.

I’m not saying that all of their diets rarely work, what I am saying is that celebrities have the money to spend on having their shopping bought and prepared as well as personal trainers who don’t come cheap.

If you have the time and spare cash then perhaps one of these diets may work for you as well – don’t forget that celebrities also have professional makeup and hairstylists work their magic to ensure their clients always look picture perfect. There may be the times when the paparazzi get a photo of celebrities looking dishevelled and without makeup and then you’ll see that without all the paraphernalia they don’t look dissimilar to ourselves.

These diets are tailored specifically to each celebrity, some may work however many do not and we also shouldn’t forget that many are quite literally money spinners for the agents as well as the celbs themselves!

We than have to bring airbrushing into the equation – it’s a known fact that many glossy magazines and photo shoots are airbrushed and can metaphorically remove pounds from upper thighs and waistlines.

If your looking for effective diets the celebrity styled diets may or may not be the answer you’re looking for even if you do have little problem finding the spare cash.
